This is a pre-interview with Dr. Joy DeGruy and Makida Daniels, director of Stichting Ankaa, recorded ahead of Episode 7. Stichting Ankaa is the organization that brought Dr. DeGruy to the Netherlands to share the message of Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome with Dutch audiences.</p><p><br /></p><p>Makida Daniels shares how a deeply unsettling experience in 2007 left her searching for answers she couldn’t name. In 2010 she came across Dr. DeGruy’s book, but it stayed on her shelf for three years, out of fear of what she might find. When she finally read it, everything made sense. She took the course, built a relationship with Dr. DeGruy, secured funding, and made the invitation: it’s time. Now they’re here (03:08).</p><p><br /></p><p>Dr. DeGruy reflects on her keynote in Barbados, where she apologized upfront, not wanting to assume her experience as an African American would resonate with people from across the world. After she finished, people came running out of the translation booths in tears: “Tell her.
