Survivor: Marquesas Vecepia Robinson-Beyond The Torch

In this episode of Beyond the Torch, host Leslie Nease is joined by guest co-host Scott Ransom (a fan contest winner) to interview Vecepia Robinson, the winner of Survivor: Marquesas and the first African American woman to ever win the show! Vecepia shares the remarkable story of how she applied to Survivor after praying for an opportunity and mailing in a memorable audition tape of herself jumping out of a tree, and recounts how she was nearly overlooked at final auditions before boldly making her way onto the cast. She discusses her deep Christian faith — including a spiritual encounter with a friend in the Air Force, her path to giving her life to God, and how she reconciled playing a "non-Christian game" with her beliefs while on the island — as well as her clever use of a poetry book as a luxury item to secretly study and remember her tribemates for challenges. The conversation also covers the harsh living conditions in the Marquesas (especially the infamous no-nos), her legendary reaction to winning the million dollars in Central Park, her disappointment over being under-edited on the show, the brutal final tribal council where castmates called her a hypocrite, the grueling five-hour final immunity challenge, and why she has no desire to ever play Survivor again — though she remains open to The Amazing Race.
