Taylor Swift Donated 6,000 Books to a Struggling Library — 15 Years Later, Her Kindness Still Inspires Thousands

Long before Taylor Swift became one of the world's biggest music superstars, she made a generous contribution that helped young readers in her home state of Pennsylvania.

In October 2011, Swift donated 6,000 books worth approximately $68,000 to Reading Public Library, a public library system struggling with financial difficulties. She partnered with publisher Scholastic to provide books for children and young adults, with local librarians choosing the titles. <Cite refs={["turn972412search0","turn972412search1"]}/>

❤️ A gift that went beyond the booksThe donated books were distributed among the library's four branches. Each book featured a star on its spine and a special sticker inside acknowledging Swift's contribution.

Library officials hoped her popularity would encourage more children and teenagers to discover the joy of reading. Her donation also helped expand the selection available to local families during a challenging period for library funding. <Cite refs={["turn972412search2","turn972412search1"]}/>

📖 Where is the library today?Fifteen years later, Reading Public Library continues to serve its community. Figures reported in October 2026 indicate that the library system circulated 182,228 items and welcomed 27,452 participants to its programmes in 2025. These figures reflect the library's wider community activity; they do not, by themselves, establish that Swift's donation caused that growth. <Cite refs={["turn972412search3"]}/>

Taylor Swift's story is a reminder that generosity does not always need to be loud or dramatic. Sometimes, it means putting books into children's hands, supporting a community resource and helping make reading more accessible.

✨ A donation made in 2011 is still part of a story worth telling in 2026.
