The Oldest Story You Know - Stealing Wisdom from our Ancestors

Researchers used the tools biologists use to trace species and found that Beauty and the Beast and Rumpelstiltskin may be 4,000 years old. A tale about a blacksmith who welds the devil to his anvil may go back 6,000, and its Irish cousin, Stingy Jack, is the reason there's a carved pumpkin on your porch.

Aboriginal stories in Australia seem to remember coastlines that drowned more than 7,000 years ago. The Klamath remember a mountain that fell. And the bear in the Big Dipper may be the oldest story of all.

Who keeps the stories, who takes them, and what are we carrying for the next 6,000 years? Call in and tell us the story you heard as a kid.
