Episode 105 - Man Parrish

Episode 105 - Man Parrish3 dagen geleden47 min

"Lived Through That” is the companion podcast to my book where I look at influential musicians of the 80s and 90s and where they are today. On this podcast, we’ll delve deeper into a single pivotal moment in the lives of some of the artists I feature in that book, as well as other artists I love and admire. The stories they tell are open, honest, and inspiring.

This week’s guest is Man Parrish, and if you’re into electronic music, you already know his work, even if you don’t realize it. He’s one of the most influential electronic artists around. Man got his start in the New York City club scene of the late seventies and early eighties – places like Studio 54 and Danceteria.  Out of that world came some of his earliest tracks, like “Hip Hop Be Bop” and “Boogie Down Bronx.” Those songs became

essential building blocks for many artists who came after him, including the Beastie Boys, Daft Punk, and Lady Gaga.

And, fun fact - Madonna once opened up for him. Yes, that Madonna.

Man is a fascinating character and a natural storyteller, and he’s got a story for just about everything. I think you’re going to really enjoy this one.

Just a heads up though that this episode does involve stories of child abuse and sexual abuse so take care while listening.
