Episode #113: Weight Loss Drugs and Your Gut with Stephanie Moore
Stephanie Moore is back. Our repeat offender returns, and I’ll be honest, we could have kept going for another five hours.
Stephanie is a clinical nutritionist and psychotherapist in the UK with over 35 years in practice, and she’s seeing something in her clinic that I think we all need to talk about. A large share of her clients are now on GLP-1 weight loss drugs.
I have a confession. When I first heard about them, I thought, come on, people, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Just learn to moderate, exercise, and eat properly like the rest of us. I was wrong, or at least a lot more judgmental than I had any right to be. But changing my mind doesn’t mean these drugs are a free pass, and that’s what this conversation is really about.
I’ll walk you through:
✅ Why protein and fiber aren’t competing, and how to get both without losing the joy of a meal
✅ How GLP-1 drugs actually work, and the gut hormones your body already makes on its own
✅ Why Stephanie is open to the drugs but very careful about how she works with them
✅ What happens to your nutrition, muscle, and bone when your appetite shrinks dramatically
✅ The “high-protein” grocery haul that made me shake my head (protein pop-tarts, anyone?)
✅ What it does to your identity and self-esteem when the weight comes off, and what happens if it comes back
✅ Why whole oats beat oat bran, and what soluble versus insoluble fiber really means
✅ What your gut microbes make when you feed them well, and why it matters for your colon and your brain
